Resident urges stronger enforcement on long-term parking, abandoned vehicles and riverside cleanup

During public comment at the March 27 Williamsport City Council meeting, resident Ron Bauer (2229 Lincoln Street, Newberry) raised multiple concerns about long-term trailer parking, one-way/illegal parking on neighborhood streets and a riverside lot he described as "worse than the city dump." Bauer said a bicycle business continues to leave a trailer parked for the summer on Hebron Street and that vehicles repeatedly park the wrong way on Hillside Avenue and other blocks. He reported a truck parked across from Park Pizza on Memorial Avenue that has been in place since last fall and said repeated calls to police and public-works staff produced no lasting enforcement.
Bauer also said boats and a large camper remain parked near South Arch Street at a riverside lot he said the city has been asked to clean; he said PennDOT directed him to the city for cleanup responsibility. Bauer requested more consistent enforcement and cited prior attempts to notify departments without sustained results.
City staff acknowledged the comments and said public-works staff and police had been contacted on related matters; council members asked administration to follow up on scheduled spring cleanup and enforcement actions.
At the end of the meeting staff announced the spring cleanup begins April 22; the city will allow residents to place items out a week prior and the cleanup will run for approximately one month.
