Judiciary committee adopts House Committee substitute for House Bill 93 and 1139 in unanimous executive-session vote

Chairwoman Cameron Parker called the House Judiciary Committee to order in executive session and led members through consideration of House Bill 93 and a related measure identified as 1139.

The committee, with a quorum present, adopted a titling and cleanup amendment and then rolled the House Committee amendment into a new House Committee substitute. After adopting the substitute, the committee voted to recommend the House Committee substitute for House Bill 93 and House Bill 1139 "do pass."

The chair described the amendment as a cleanup that adds and clarifies judicial positions across several circuits, including adding an associate circuit judge in Jefferson County, a circuit judge in the 13th (Boone and Callaway), and additional judges or associate judges in other enumerated circuits. Chair Parker summarized the amendment’s changes to multiple pages and lines of the draft and described adjustments for Miller County, Plat County’s 6th Judicial Circuit, and other local circuits.

After the sponsor described the amendment, the committee members voted. Chair Parker called the roll; the clerk recorded each member as voting "aye." By the committee’s tally — 10 ayes and 0 nos — the committee reported the House Committee substitute for House Bill 93 and House Bill 1139 "do pass."

The committee exited executive session following the vote and moved to the public hearing portion of its agenda.
