Tasty Dessert Bar at 141 Main Street approved for common‑victualer and entertainment licenses with extended seasonal hours

The Northampton Licensing Commission on Feb. 19 approved a new common‑victualer license and an entertainment license for Athanasios “Art” Genakis, who will operate The Tasty Dessert Bar at 141 Main Street.

Genakis described a dessert concept offering Greek yogurt, “Greek donuts” made on site, ice cream and small plates; he told commissioners he expects entertainment to be modest and intermittent, with “not more than 2 people performing at a time.” He said some programming will be used more in the winter months and that summer hours could extend later if demand warrants.

After discussing proposed operating hours and potential summer extensions, commissioners agreed to a uniform set of hours to simplify enforcement: a common‑victualer license allowing service 10 AM–midnight Monday–Saturday and 1 PM–midnight on Sundays, and an entertainment license matching those hours (with the caveat that Sunday entertainment cannot begin before 1 PM under local practice). Chair Yakovlev and other commissioners emphasized the need to introduce the business to nearby residents, and staff reiterated standard expectations that the operator cooperate with neighbors and the commission if complaints are filed.

Fire and building staff advised the applicant on life‑safety requirements; Captain Stollmeier and building staff reminded the applicant to maintain clear access to fire panels and to consult fire and building personnel before altering the kitchen or adding appliances, which can change permitting and sprinkler requirements.
