Organizers said the event, held in partnership with the Hillsborough Education Foundation, aims to support students, teachers and Hillsborough County public schools while promoting community fitness and mental wellness. "We are excited to invite you to our fourth annual Race for Education 5K and 1-mile run/walk," Van Ayers said.
Lynn Gray described the event as open to all activity levels, saying, "Whether you're an avid runner, such as myself and the superintendent, or prefer a leisurely walk, this event is for you." The planned route will proceed down North Boulevard and cross the Hillsborough River, beginning on the Blake High School campus.
Last year’s event drew a reported 1,100-plus runners and walkers; organizers said they hope to exceed that turnout on April 12. Registration information is available at bit.ly/raceforeducation5k, the announcement said.
Officials encouraged participation from every school community in Hillsborough County. The announcement did not specify registration fees, sponsorship details, or the year-to-date fundraising total for schools.
