"The United States is designating 5 individuals and 3 entities pursuant to executive order 13224 as amended for ties to US designated Hezbollah," State Department spokesperson Tami said. The action, she said, supports the administration's policy of "maximum pressure on Iran and its terrorist proxies" and targets schemes used to conceal illicit behavior and acquire revenue, including facilitation of Iran's oil sales.
Tami said the Treasury Department is designating the individuals and entities for supporting a sanctions‑evasion network affiliated with Hezbollah's finance team. The measures, she said, aim to deny Hezbollah access to revenue and to cut off the group's access to the international financial system.
"The United States is committed to working with partners to disrupt terrorism and terrorist financing worldwide," she added, and said the designations support a whole‑of‑government policy. The spokesperson referenced a national security presidential memorandum dated Feb. 4 in describing the policy framework.
The department declined to provide additional operational details about the designations during the briefing.
