Highland Beach commission certifies referendum, swears in new commissioner and approves waterways grant

The Town Commission of the Town of Highland Beach on March 25 voted unanimously to certify the results of the March 11 municipal referendum, declare the newly elected commissioner and approve a resolution to apply for Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) waterways assistance funds for construction of a marine facility.
The actions matter because the FIND grant, if awarded, would offset costs authorized by the recent referendum and reduce the town's reliance on local funds to build the marine facility the referendum approved.
Commissioners approved three formal resolutions by unanimous roll-call votes. Mayor Natasha Moore opened the discussion on the referendum results, saying, "So, the referendum passed. Thank you to everyone, that voted in favor and your your faith in us, and we look forward to making these important improvements, that were recently approved." The commission then adopted resolution number 2025-008, which formally declares the municipal referendum results and provides an effective date.
The commission next adopted resolution number 2025-009, declaring Jason Chudnovsky elected to the office of commissioner and then administered the oath of office. Newly sworn Commissioner Jason Chudnovsky recited the oath, beginning, "I, Jason Chudnovsky, do solemnly affirm..." and was welcomed by colleagues.
Separately, the commission approved resolution number 2025-010 authorizing the town to submit an application to the Florida Inland Navigation District waterways assistance program for the construction phase of the marine facility. Town Manager Marshall Labadee said the town is "in really good standing to receive that grant," and described the application as the construction-phase follow-up to an earlier FIND award for design.
All three resolutions passed on unanimous votes. No amendments or dissent were recorded on the floor.
