Planned Wawa station to use existing access at Veterans Memorial Parkway; committee says INDOT review not required

APC staff told the Tippecanoe County Technical Transportation Committee that the proposed Wawa convenience store and fueling station at Veterans Memorial Parkway and U.S. 52 will use an existing break in the limited-access right-of-way and does not require a formal change to the access point under the applicable INDOT access process.
Staff said the driveway will be located at the existing limited-access break between the beginning and ending points on Veterans Memorial Parkway and that, after review, staff saw no need to move the access. The committee was briefed that APC staff has followed the proposal through the application process and that, staff-wide, the conclusion was there was no need to change the access location or pursue an INDOT access modification.
A representative noted that NDOT (INDOT) had sent comments to the applicant on March 25; committee members said they had not all seen those comments yet. One committee member said some comments had been required of a developer to the north and that INDOT may have requested related materials from the Wawa applicant. The committee did not take formal action on the Wawa access because staff said the location will use the existing break and no approval was necessary.
Ending: Staff said the item was considered complete for the committee’s purposes; any outstanding permit or comment issues will be handled by INDOT and by APC staff as the review proceeds.
