County updates Westland Beach dredging and pier work; Taylor Creek and Bridal Trail advances planned

Westland Beach: Staff showed photos of the newly completed fishing pier and said railings are being installed. Dredging to supply beach nourishment has begun; contractor Docks of the Bay is dredging the marina entrance and placing quality sand in a designated dewatering area to be used for beach restoration and dune work. Staff said survey staking and marking for beach and dune restoration is complete and that revegetation will follow sand placement and dewatering.
Taylor Creek, Carter Cove and Chesapeake Trail parks: Draft engineering plans for Taylor Creek (road, shoreline, pier, boardwalk and structures) are nearly complete and the county expects to advertise bid documents in the next month or two. Carter Cove engineering is about 70% complete with a late‑2025 bid target. Chesapeake Trail Park is cleared for NEPA review.
Bridal Trail: Construction of Phase 1A (a Harris Road connector) is essentially complete; a soft opening is planned for April 12 to coincide with a local cross‑country fundraiser. Phase 1B (Hills Quarter to Compass) remains on hold pending release of federal funds; staff is preparing an RFP for engineering services with multimodal trail experience and federal‑funding familiarity.
Other notes: The Westland Beach parking lot and comfort station contract was awarded and the county is finalizing the contract. Staff said the chestnut breakwaters are accumulating sand naturally and appear to be performing as intended.
Ending: Staff asked supervisors to note the April 12 Bridal Trail soft opening and said they will continue coordination with federal funding offices regarding trail funds and with engineering teams on forthcoming park bids.
