Cornwall students propose painted senior parking spots as fundraiser and tradition

Three student leaders from Cornwall Central High School presented a proposal during public comment asking the Board of Education to allow graduating seniors to paint their assigned parking spaces as a supervised school tradition and fundraiser.
Bianca Martelli, a junior and Student Council member, was joined by Marissa Barnsby, junior class president, and Nicholas Conte, student vice president for the PTSO. They described the proposal as a way to increase school pride and creativity while raising funds to offset rising senior activities costs. The students said their survey of next year’s seniors showed “overwhelming support” (reported at 96.3 percent) and that nearby districts including Monroe, Woodbury and Goshen permit similar programs.
The students said they would establish an approval process for designs, follow school regulations about content and supervision, and limit painting to the assigned parking space surface only. They supplied the board with a copy of their survey and examples of neighbor-district rules.
Board follow-up: A board member asked for the students’ contact information and said the administration would follow up. The board did not take a formal vote on the proposal during the meeting.
