Committee members discussed using media, national awareness months and higher-education partnerships to increase public awareness of animal ordinances, microchipping and shelter services.
Members noted the bylaws include a standing public relations committee (Article 8) and agreed to staff that committee with volunteers. The group suggested tapping established national observances (for example, National Pet ID Week and other awareness months) to amplify local campaigns and urged committee members to collect event dates and relevant promotional materials.
Speakers proposed partnering with local university programs — public administration, media/PR and graduate capstone projects — to document ordinance enforcement problems, develop outreach materials and provide student research support. One member said students’ thesis or capstone projects could align with committee needs; staff agreed to reach out to local universities for possible collaboration and to identify faculty contacts.
Members also noted recent local outreach success: a live video about microchipping produced national recognition and the committee asked volunteers to coordinate social-media content for upcoming vaccine clinics and ordinance-awareness efforts.
