Harrison County commissioners on Feb. 25 adopted a resolution opposing the sale or lease of water from Lake of the Pines to any water district outside the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District and voted to create a Harrison County Water Advisory Committee to coordinate county water providers and report back to the court.
The resolution passed unanimously, 5-0, after a public comment period that brought Judy Patterson, mayor of Uncertain, to the podium to outline scientific and hydrological concerns. "If the water went down from this sale, there would not be enough water for your intake from Big Cypress," Patterson told the court. "That's just a fact." She and local organizations said a proposed sale or transfer of water rights could leave downstream communities with insufficient raw water for municipal intakes and for Caddo Lake tributaries.
