Lavaca County Commissioners' Court voted Jan. 6 to approve changes to the Lavaca County Sheriff's Department organizational structure, including personnel positions, titles and salaries, and made the changes retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025.
The action followed an executive session called to discuss the sheriff's office reorganization. Precinct 2 Commissioner moved to approve the changes and Precinct 1 Commissioner seconded the motion; the court voted unanimously in favor.
Precinct 2 Commissioner said, "After much discussion and, the dialogue going back and forth and reviewing this, these changes, I recommend that we approve the changes of the county sheriff's department's organizational structure, including personnel positions, title, and salaries." The court then voted to make the changes effective retroactive to 01/01/2025.
The meeting record shows the court entered executive session at about 10:11 a.m. and returned at about 10:41 a.m. The court did not disclose additional details of the executive-session discussion on the record.
The motion passed unanimously. County officials signed paperwork after the meeting.
Details added to the record indicate the court approved revisions to positions, titles and pay scales for the sheriff's office; the court directed staff to prepare the paperwork for signatures and to effect the retroactive effective date of Jan. 1, 2025.
