Commissioners approve TxDOT sidewalk plan for Lavaca County Annex with two front entrances

Lavaca County commissioners on March 10 approved a Texas Department of Transportation sidewalk project at the county annex that will provide two primary front entrances and remove the existing south exit.
County Judge Keith Mudd and county staff described the proposal as a stand‑alone TxDOT project to install sidewalk and reconfigure frontage at the Lavaca County Annex. The plan, as approved, designates a primary center entrance and a north entrance near the floor shop; county staff confirmed the narrower rear portion will be 28 feet where the entrance tapers. "This project is stand alone. This is TxDOT putting the sidewalk in in front of the annex," the judge said during the discussion.
Commissioners agreed the sidewalk project should proceed regardless of other property acquisition discussions the county is pursuing to the south of the annex. The court instructed staff to attach the latest two-entrance exhibit (Exhibit A) to the contract paperwork before signing; the judge noted the draft paperwork contained an incorrect county name in one place and asked staff to flag corrections at signing.
A motion to approve the TxDOT sidewalk project at the Lavaca County Annex passed by voice vote. The motion was made by Commissioner, Precinct 2, and seconded by Commissioner, Precinct 1; commissioners voted unanimously in favor.
County staff said TxDOT's work will provide two usable entrances to the annex and will not preclude any future county acquisition or driveway changes if the county purchases property to the south.
