Road and Bridge reports patching work, oilfield damage and six vacancies; commissioners ask for follow-up on citizen service requests

Harrison County Road and Bridge staff told commissioners on Jan. 17 that crews are concentrating on patching but that asphalt availability has been limited because weather has reduced production at nearby plants.
The department reported the arrival of a new sign truck and said crews will continue to respond to reports of downed or missing signs. Road and Bridge staff also said heavy hauling tied to oilfield activity has damaged local roads, including Strickland Springs and other community roads. Staff said operators are responsible for some maintenance and that the county has communicated with operators about repairs.
The presenter said the department has one recent resignation and currently has six open positions. Commissioners and staff discussed workforce pressures as oilfield activity picks up and noted that recruitment and retention will be an ongoing issue in coming months.
Commissioners also asked staff to provide follow-up to elected officials when a citizen complaint or service request is completed. One commissioner described repeatedly receiving the same calls from constituents who then do not receive confirmation of resolution; Road and Bridge agreed to send email updates to commissioners when a task is scheduled and when it is complete.
The court approved a personnel action related to Road and Bridge vacancies by unanimous vote.
