The Gonzales County Commissioners Court on a unanimous vote proclaimed April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and as National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Judge Patrick C. Davis read the child-abuse proclamation, citing statewide and local counts, and closed by saying, “Now, therefore, I'm Patrick C. Davis, Gonzales County judge. And in such capacity, I do hereby proclaim the month of April 2025 as Child Abuse prevention month in Gonzales County.”
The sexual-assault proclamation, read later in the meeting, cited statewide prevalence statistics and services provided in fiscal 2024. The court voted to adopt the proclamation and invited survivors’ advocates and program representatives forward for photographs.
Why it matters: Proclamations are ceremonial but signal county support for public-awareness campaigns and for local victim services that rely on partnerships among law enforcement, health providers and nonprofits.
Meeting outcome: Both proclamations were approved by motion and second and carried on voice votes. The court provided signature copies for public representatives.
Context and next steps: The proclamations do not, by themselves, allocate funds. Court members encouraged community support for prevention efforts and victims’ services and allowed representatives to pose for photographs after the votes.
Ending: The court moved on after the read-and-approve motions; staff retained copies for distribution to local partner agencies.
