Francisco Noyola, vice president of the ABC Unified School District Board, briefed the Hawaiian Gardens City Council on March 26 about recent school activities and partnerships.
Noyola praised the engagement between deputies and schools and highlighted prevention through community policing. "Prevention is the biggest investment we can make in this youth," he said.
His report listed school activities across the district: career days and reading events at Aloha Elementary; Hawaiian Elementary sixth graders’ UCLA visit and a parent workshop on family violence prevention; Melbourne Elementary’s Read Across America and STEM events; Fetty Middle School students winning Los Angeles County History Day awards and attending engineering and college‑exposure events; and multiple athletic achievements at Artesia High School. Noyola also noted that the district submitted facilities (Fede Sports Complex and the Sea Robert Lee Activity Center) for consideration as potential training sites for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and that district staff will continue to coordinate with cities on possible collaborations.
Council response: Council members thanked Noyola, requested that students be brought to council to be recognized, and noted that recognizing students can be motivating. No formal action was taken on the presentation.
