The Seminole County Code Enforcement Board on March 27 ordered Betty W. Tanzer to secure and clear a residential pool at 300 South Sweetwater Cove Boulevard in Longwood, setting a compliance deadline of May 11 and a $100-per-day penalty if violations persist.
Code enforcement officer Cameron Adair of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office presented photographic evidence and inspection dates showing a stagnant pool and a gate that was not self-closing or self-latching. Adair said his initial inspection was Oct. 29, 2024, and follow-up inspections continued through March 26, 2025, with the violations remaining.
The board’s finding references Seminole County Code, chapter 95, section 95.4 (stagnant water) and subsection 95.3(g) (unsecured swimming pool). Adair recommended an order requiring removal of stagnant water and that the pool be surrounded by a barrier at least 48 inches high with a self-closing, self-latching gate whose release mechanism sits on the pool side. He told the board the pool motor currently did not operate and that earlier attempts to secure the gate (including a bicycle lock) did not meet code.
Tanzer told the board she had been dealing with a series of personal and family emergencies, said roof repairs were under way and that a pool service was scheduled to repair the motor the next day. “My pool man is coming in the morning to fix the panels in the motor and then get it cleaned,” Tanzer said, adding she would try to arrange for a proper gate.
Board member Dudley Bates moved to accept a staff recommendation with amendments: change the compliance date to May 11 and set the daily fine at $100 per violation if the property remains out of compliance. The motion was seconded by Catherine Townsend and approved by the board.
The board and staff advised Tanzer to contact Officer Adair for guidance on acceptable gate and latch placement and to document any repairs. The order notes that if the county later finds the condition poses a serious threat to public safety, the county may exercise statutory authority to secure the property and assess costs to the owner.
Case numbers: 25-16-CEB (stagnant water) and 25-17-CEB (unsecured pool).
