Fairview Park council on Jan. 13 voted to remove an item on council chambers audio-visual (AV) upgrades and security from the finance committee and asked staff to explore livestreaming and other video options.
Council members discussed roof work and a larger campus project that has delayed interior AV upgrades. The administration said roof and HVAC work are likely to be part of a broader City Hall project this year. Councilmember Kim raised security and sight-line concerns; other members suggested adding live video to broaden transparency.
Law Director Deborah advised that recording public council meetings on video is permissible for a public meeting but recommended signage to notify attendees and pausing or special handling when minors are involved. She noted that current council rules require speakers to provide an address that appears in the minutes and indicated that the council could review related rules and consider charter amendments.
Liz (staff) described website modules that can host video and link directly to agenda items so viewers can access specific segments, rather than listening to entire audio recordings. Council voted to remove the AV/security item from finance committee and asked the administration to return with options for recording and online dissemination when the project moves forward.
