The Atascosa County Commissioners Court voted Jan. 6 to accept a contract with EMSMC as the county’s new emergency medical services billing company, effective April 2025, pending review and approval by the county attorney.
Courtney Greer, Atascosa County EMS director, told the court the county’s previous vendor, Digitech, “emailed us back in, I believe, August or September stating they were not gonna be collecting any correspondence anymore from patients. They weren't gonna be collecting bills. They weren't gonna all they were gonna do was send the bills out to the patients.” Greer said staff and local officials decided to seek a new billing company and identified EMSMC.
A staff member identified in the meeting as Miss Elise said she reviewed the proposed agreement, made recommended changes and believed the company had accepted those edits: “I reviewed the, proposed agreement. I made some recommended changes. I believe they've been accepted by the company, so I would recommend approval with the changes added.”
Commissioner Riley moved to accept the contract with the changes, and Commissioner Pavelic seconded. The court voted in favor and the motion carried. The contract’s effective date was presented as April 2025; the court’s approval was conditioned on final legal review and approval by the county attorney, per the motion and meeting record.
The item arose after Greer said Digitech would no longer perform collections and that county staff had worked with the judge and other officials to identify a replacement. The court’s action authorizes staff to proceed with EMSMC subject to the attorney’s final sign-off. No dollar amounts for the contract, specific performance metrics, or a detailed timeline beyond “effective April 2025” were provided in the public record for this meeting.
