The Atascosa County Commissioners Court voted 3-0 to approve a purchase agreement to sell a county-owned modular building to Atascosa County Health Center Incorporated for use as a clinic in Poteet.
County Attorney Molly Solis presented a draft purchase-sale agreement and said a few identification details — including the building identification number and HVAC system specifics — needed to be added before execution. She also said the court must set parameters for how long the buyer would have to move the building; she suggested a preliminary number of 90 days in the draft but said the exact timing could be negotiated.
Representatives for Atascosa County Health Center described the organization’s history in Poteet and its plans. A speaker said the group started in the area in 1976, moved operations off-site in 1981, and returned in 2021 using leased space. They said the health center has secured a contract for 1.3 acres where it intends to relocate the modular building and perform renovations and an addition for reception and waiting areas. The purchaser said they expect to close on the land in March or early April and will proceed with site development and building relocation; renovation quotes were said to be underway.
A commissioner said the county will negotiate the timing for the building move based on the buyer’s site work. Commissioner Bowen moved to approve the sale; Commissioner Riley seconded and the motion carried with three votes.
County staff said the building has little market value and that selling to the health center supports rural health access in the Poteet area. The court approved the agreement with outstanding identification items to be filled in and directed staff to negotiate the moving timeline with the buyer. No specific sale price was recorded in the public comment made at the meeting.
