Escanaba honors Officer Jared Hunter with lifesaving award after choking rescue

The council heard that Officer Hunter, while in the final phase of field training with Captain Smith riding along, responded to a report of a woman choking at 501 South Lincoln Road. According to the presentation, Officer Hunter prepared a suction (LifeVac) device, and after a second attempt the woman, identified as Marybeth, regained an altered state of consciousness and was taken from the scene by Rampart emergency personnel. Marybeth and family members were present at the meeting for the presentation.
The award presentation emphasized the officer’s quick actions and use of available equipment to clear the airway. Mayor Hammel and the presenter noted the department’s decision to formally recognize the response with a lifesaving award.
The council recorded the presentation on the March 6 agenda under award presentations; there was no council action required or taken on the item.
