City manager updates council on budget schedule, road bids, Pontiac Trail work and street‑tree replacements

City Manager Zalnick told the South Lyon City Council on March 24 that the city’s budget process is proceeding and that several infrastructure projects are moving through design and bidding.

Zalnick said the council’s budget meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m., and staff expect to distribute the budget package to council members the week before. He said bids for a road-improvement project are due April 3 and that staff expect to make an award at the April 14 city council meeting.

On Pontiac Trail, Zalnick said surveyors had been working between the curb and the building line to identify public utilities that may be within the corridor. He said the Boardwalk project remains incomplete; staff asked the engineering consultant for a revised completion date after the contractor added additional bridge work and plan to report back when a new target date is available.

Zalnick said he would speak with the Department of Public Works superintendent to identify which street trees will be replaced this year and that replacing trees on county right-of-way can be more difficult because of permitting. He also confirmed he had given a resident his card regarding a recently removed large tree and expected to follow up.

Council member Kurzweil asked about a damaged sprinkler line after a sidewalk repair; Zalnick directed residents to contact the DPW office and provide the address so DPW can address the issue. Zalnick also noted a forthcoming discussion of renewable energy and Public Act 233 materials that were provided to council members for future consideration.

No formal votes were recorded on the items Zalnick reported; staff will return with bids, permit requests and budget materials as required.
