The School District of Waukesha Board of Education on July 30 approved the appointment of Patrick Rooney as assistant principal at South High School, voting 7-0.
Board members moved and voted on the appointment during a special meeting called to resolve time-sensitive items. District staff member Mrs. Seedy introduced Rooney, describing him as “a thoughtful leader who values getting to know students and staff on a personal level” and saying he has “a strong understanding of using data to positively increase student results.”
Mrs. Seedy said Rooney is currently the principal and summer school academic coordinator at Milwaukee Academy of Science and previously taught at the same school. She added that he holds a Bachelor of Science in English Education and a Master of Science in Administrative Leadership from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee; a confidential recommendation and his resume were placed in the board packet.
Mark Borowski moved the appointment; Mrs. Voigt seconded the motion. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote with the following votes recorded: Betty Koenig, aye; Mark Borowski, aye; Eric Brooks, aye; David Wadd, aye; Carrie Kozlowski, aye; Diane Voyte, aye; Kelly Piasik, aye. The motion passed, 7-0.
The board did not discuss a contract length, start date, or compensation during the public portion of the meeting; the packet materials were noted as containing a confidential recommendation and resume.
The district may complete any required onboarding or public-notice steps before Rooney assumes the position.
