Board approves consent items, several new policies and an accounts-payable register; one member recused on check register

The Appleton Area School District board approved a slate of consent items and policies during Wednesday’s meeting, recording roll-call votes on several items and noting one recusal.
The board first approved the meeting agenda and the board’s consent agenda (two sets of meeting minutes) by voice vote. The superintendent’s consent agenda — items 9a through 9i (including new courses, fine arts updates, CTE changes and educator contract updates/reporting) — was approved by roll call with all members present voting aye.
Business services staff presented the accounts-payable check register for October (item 11b). A board member declared a conflict of interest and recused from the vote; the motion to approve the AP check register carried by roll call (majority aye, one recusal recorded).
The board adopted three policies presented for approval: policy 225 (Superintendent evaluation), policy 342.8/Section 504 plans and services, and policy 526.1 (employment references and verification). The board also voted to remove policy 422 (Admission of nonresident students) as outdated. Each policy action passed on roll-call votes recorded as ayes by the members present.
Votes recorded on the transcript (roll calls and voice votes) showed consistent board approval for the listed consent items and policies. The board scheduled a work session for Nov. 20 and adjourned.
The board did not take final action on attendance boundaries for Sandy Slope/Huntley; that discussion was continued with a target decision date of Nov. 25 and with public listening sessions planned this week.
