Parks Director Matt Kraus told the Nixa City Council on March 25 that the new splash pad near Macaulay Park is nearly complete but needs additional seating and perimeter concrete, and staff asked the council to consider a $15,000 amendment to the 2025 budget to finish those items.
Kraus said the splash pad contractor has finished most exterior work and the project awaits a replacement filter. The $15,000 would be taken from park impact fees. The funds would pay for approximately 50 linear feet of additional concrete 8 feet wide around much of the pad perimeter and for park‑style bench seating outside the fenced splash area so adults can sit while watching children.
Kraus described seating options as metal park benches and picnic‑table style seating with openings to accommodate wheelchair access. He said one pedestrian approach directly across from the bathrooms would not be ADA‑compliant but a different path to the north would meet ADA requirements; staff said the seating designs allow wheelchair users to approach seating openings and that the facility would retain a fence for crowd control and weather closures.
Staff presented the amendment as part of a first reading (council bill 2025‑09). The council opened a public hearing and closed it without speakers. Because this was a first reading, the council did not take a final vote.
If adopted at a later meeting, the amendment would increase the project budget by $15,000 funded from park impact fees to add spectator seating and the additional concrete perimeter and sidewalk connections.
