Board votes to retire into closed session to discuss SRO implementation, an employment agreement and personnel matters

The board voted, by roll call, to retire into closed session to consider several items the agenda identified as appropriate for closed deliberation: the implementation of school resource officers as a result of Act 12; an employment agreement with the board clerk and chief officer of the Office of Board Governance; and employee personnel matters.

Director Ferguson moved to retire to closed session and Director Simpson seconded. The roll call recorded seven "aye" votes and no opposition. The motion cited state statutory exemptions (Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c), (d), (e), (f) and (g) as printed in the meeting record) to permit discussion of employment, legal strategy, preliminary personnel considerations, competitive/collective bargaining business, and crime-prevention strategy.

The board had earlier placed the item on the agenda as "action on a request to retire to closed session relative to implementing school resource officers as a result of Act 12," and recommended deferring the item to the end of the meeting. The motion to move into closed session passed by roll call: Director Ferguson, Director Jackson, Director Leonard, Director Simpson, Director Zomber, Director Herndon and Chair Gokul Gandhi all voted "aye." The secretary noted the time and the board left the public portion of the meeting.
