The Long Range Planning Committee of the Milwaukee Public Schools approved revisions to Administrative Policy and Procedure 4.07, Student Nutrition and Wellness, adopting the administration’s redlined changes and adding the required U.S. Department of Agriculture nondiscrimination statement.
The administration presented the item and asked the committee to approve the updated policy language. “Per board governance policy 2.11, every fifth year, the board and its designee shall revisit all of its policies, rules, and procedures to determine their coherence and appropriateness to the present mission of the district,” said Dr. Brenda Kesselius, superintendent, while introducing the revisions. The administration noted Renee Slotin Beauchamp, Director of Nutrition Services, was available to answer technical questions.
The nut graf: The vote implements routine policy maintenance and ensures the district’s nutrition policy includes federally required nondiscrimination language that school meal programs must display and follow.
Director Garcia moved to accept the recommended redline changes. The secretary called the roll; the motion carried on a 5-0 vote. The committee recorded the vote with Directors Garcia, Gokul Gandhi, Jackson, Herndon and Chair Zomberg voting aye.
Committee members did not receive public comment on this item. The administration did not propose additional operational changes to cafeterias or program funding in this action; the motion adopted the policy language as presented.
The committee’s approval will be forwarded to the full board per normal policy-review procedures. No implementation timeline or budget change was specified in the presentation.
