The Human Resources Committee heard details about a pilot to change central‑office staff evaluations to a COPES‑aligned model developed with CESA 6.
Brian, staff member, said the pilot will include 14 central‑office employees (administrative and admin support roles) who are not covered by the educator effectiveness system used for teachers and building administrators. The COPES/DABE model includes goal setting, three‑sixty‑degree (360) feedback from supervisors, peers and direct reports, and a rubric‑based summative review in the third year of the cycle.
Under the proposal, staff would be assigned to year‑1 or year‑2 goal‑setting cycles or a year‑3 summative cycle based on when they last had an evaluation under the district’s narrative system. The district expects to present the model to the 14 affected employees in April and begin the phased schedule in July so the cycle aligns with the school year.
Why this matters: the model is intended to broaden feedback, align central‑office goals with district improvement goals, and provide clearer development pathways for non‑certified leaders.
Next steps: staff will present the pilot to the affected employees in April, begin implementation in July on a three‑year rotating schedule, and report back to the committee on experience and any recommendations for expanding the model to other employee groups.
