Maggie Olivo, arts integration specialist at Fairview Elementary School, said, "Arts integration merges academic standards from core content areas like English and language arts, social studies, and science with arts standards." She said teachers have observed increased student engagement, better learning retention and a stronger sense of pride among students who participate.
Olivo pointed to the Fairview violin project as a distinctive element of the school’s approach. "Seeing where there are kids that are maybe introverts and we give them the violin, they go through our program and they're standing proud and it's just absolutely beautiful," she said.
