Building official reports permit backlog, inspections and monthly fees

He said the office is managing a backlog: roughly 215 pages of open permits remain in the town’s system, likely representing multiple permits per page and a mix of records that need administrative closure or final inspections. The department attributed some of the backlog to recent changes in the permit software and staff turnover during a change of personnel.
Total permit fees collected for February were reported as $5,852. The official said year-to-date reporting and comparisons to prior-year monthly figures would be provided in future reports to give the board better tracking information.
The building official also asked the board to consider allowing a town vehicle to be taken home overnight on nights when the official has to attend meetings; the board expressed informal support but did not formalize a written policy at the meeting. No regulatory changes or permit-fee adjustments were approved at the meeting.
