Selectmen waive $50 permit fee for junior firefighters’ election-day bake sale

The Plaistow Board of Selectmen voted on March 3 to waive a $50 permit fee for a junior firefighters’ bake sale on town election day.
An organizer asked the board to waive the fee so the nonprofit junior firefighter unit could use fundraising proceeds without paying the permit. The organizer said the bake sale will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and that the town health inspector had reviewed the plan and instructed the organizer to come to the board for the waiver.
Selectmen moved, seconded and approved the waiver by voice vote. The board clarified that parents doing the baking would complete any forms required by the health inspector and that the fee would be covered by the ALS/junior firefighters' fundraising guidelines (the bake sale proceeds will not be taxpayer-funded). The moderator and town moderator reiterated that sale items would be available as voters leave the polls.
No dollar amount beyond the $50 fee was requested; the board did not attach additional conditions to the waiver beyond the health-inspection requirements.
