Town manager issues fraud warnings, election dates and community notices

Town Manager Rick Sawyer used his Feb. 12 report to warn residents about phone and text message fraud, to remind voters about upcoming election deadlines and to highlight local programs.
Sawyer said Bedford has seen a rise in spoofed caller ID and phishing texts and asked residents not to click suspicious links or pay demands such as requests for gift cards or cryptocurrency. "If you have any concern that it might be legitimate, call or talk to somebody first," Sawyer said and provided the police non-emergency number, (603) 472-5113, as a contact point.
He also pointed residents to the official E-ZPass site (EZPassNH.com) and noted the state DOT had posted alerts after residents received phishing texts claiming toll issues. Sawyer encouraged those who suspect fraud to contact the police for assistance.
On elections, Sawyer reminded residents that the town's local election is March 11, with polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bedford High School, and that the voter-registration deadline for new registrants is Saturday, March 1 (special session 3:00-3:30 p.m.). He said the town clerk's office and library would publish candidate and warrant information, and the library would run a voters guide.
Other items Sawyer flagged included the Citizens Police Academy (sign-up by Feb. 28), a peanut-butter-and-jelly drive for the Bedford Community Food Pantry in February, the Bedford Lions Club pancake breakfast on March 9, and the town's blue-bag cleanup day scheduled for April 12. He thanked the public works crew for snow removal work and encouraged residents to check town web pages for schedules and links.
