The Isanti City Council unanimously approved a special-event permit for the Rum River BMX Governor’s Cup, a three-day BMX competition slated to use the Isanti Indoor Arena.
City staff told the council the event will run three days: January 24 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., January 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and January 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organizers estimated attendance at 800 to 1,000 people per day. Public Services Director Matt Sylvester reviewed the operational plan and gave his approval with a staffing caveat: routine plowing during the event window may be difficult and could have to wait until after event hours depending on weather and timing.
Event organizers said the Governor’s Cup is in its second year in Isanti and draws out-of-area competitors and spectators. Tim Dosinski, an event representative, told the council the group’s recent New Year’s event “turned out really well” and reported a successful gate opening and general positive response from attendees. He described the Governor’s Cup as a multi-state draw that provides multiple race heats over the weekend.
Council member Heaman made a motion to approve the permit; Holmgren seconded. The motion passed on a recorded 4–0 vote.
Council and staff noted ongoing roof work at the arena and said pre-construction coordination is complete; organizers confirmed pre-con and contractor coordination was under way and that staff received required approvals. Organizers and staff said they would continue to coordinate on logistics for parking, public-safety access and any weather-related operations that could affect snow removal or access during the event windows.
The event is permitted to proceed on the dates presented; staff will continue to coordinate operational details with event organizers.
