Isanti Council appoints Nicholas Peterson, who is sworn in and given committee assignments

Nicholas Peterson was appointed to the Isanti City Council and sworn in after a unanimous vote, the council announced at its meeting.

The council filled a vacant seat after interviewing four applicants: Jacob Miller, Chris Rosemark, Nathan Chapman and Nicholas Peterson (Kenneth Waldo did not attend). After the interviews, council members cast unanimous votes for Peterson, who then took the oath of office administered by Miss Strand.

The interviews included brief statements from each applicant about their backgrounds and reasons for seeking the seat. In his interview, Nicholas Peterson described his family and work history, said he moved to Isanti in 2018 and told council members he had been active in local events, coaching and volunteer work. He said he listened to recent meetings before applying and believed he could contribute additional perspectives.

After Peterson’s oath, councilmembers discussed assignments to boards, commissions and advisory committees now that the council has a full membership. Council agreed to tentatively assign Peterson to the Chamber of Commerce liaison role (monthly luncheon) and to community education; Holmgren will serve on the school liaison committee with the mayor as co-liaison. Council indicated some committee appointments may be adjusted next month depending on schedules.

The council did not adopt any new substantive policy as part of the appointment; staff will update the official roster and return any unresolved committee items to a future meeting if required.

Peterson took his seat at the dais immediately after the oath and will participate in council business and committee meetings going forward.
