Council directs staff to introduce ordinance creating Environmental Policy and Innovation Commission (EPIC)

Councilmember Douglas introduced a motion directing city staff to prepare and introduce an ordinance on first reading to establish the Environmental Policy and Innovation Commission (EPIC) and codify it in Chapter 2 of the Commerce City Revised Municipal Code.
Councilmember Chacon seconded the motion. Councilmembers debated briefly whether to also codify the Parks, Recreation and Golf Advisory Committee (PRG) at the same time; staff said codifying PRG could be considered separately and that EPIC and PRG were the only two advisory bodies not yet codified in the municipal code. Mayor Pro Tem Noble asked that PRG consider whether golf should be spun out as a separate advisory committee; the council later directed the Parks, Recreation and Golf Advisory Committee to make a recommendation on that point.
After discussion the council voted to direct staff to introduce the EPIC ordinance on first reading. The roll call vote was recorded as 7 yes, 1 no and 1 excused absence.
Staff noted the ordinance draft could be prepared for first reading on the council’s April 7 meeting calendar.
Ending: The clerk will place the drafted ordinance on the first‑reading calendar; councilmembers may request the item be removed from consent for full council consideration.
