Stewartville — Alicia Nelson of First American Insurance presented the city’s 2024 insurance review and the council voted to designate her agency as Stewartville’s insurance agent for 2025 and to keep the city’s municipal tort-liability monetary limits in place.
Nelson, who identified her agency as representing the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust, told the council that Stewartville will receive dividends tied to the trust’s pooled experience. She reported a property-casualty dividend of $6,699 and a workers’-compensation dividend of $7,334 in the packet summary, and said Stewartville’s liability experience modification for the upcoming year is 0.91 (a credit effect). She also said the League was seeing about an 8% decrease in both liability and property rates overall, and explained that experience-modification factors reflect recent claims history.
On the council floor, members moved and approved a motion to designate Alicia Nelson / First American Insurance as the city’s agent for 2025. The council then considered the municipal tort-liability question; staff noted the city’s historical practice has been to decline to waive the statutory monetary limits, and the council approved a resolution to not waive those limits as presented in the packet.
The council’s action on tort limits was taken as a single, formal resolution vote and recorded in the meeting as approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Nelson answered brief clarifying questions from council members before the votes.
