Select Board approves $168.426 million guaranteed maximum price amendment for Pierce School construction

Project representatives, including the owner’s project manager and Consigli representatives, told the board that the amendment preserves flexibility to implement photovoltaic panels either through the contractor’s allowance or via a town‑direct purchase plan, which may reduce markups associated with contractor procurement. Lynn Stapleton, the owner’s project manager, said the allocation would be carried in the electrical division line so that the town could receive full reimbursement from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) if the funds were ultimately used under that trade work; if funds are unused they revert to the town.
Stapleton told the board that the Building Commission previously approved the recommendation and that the change was submitted to the Select Board and School Building Committee to allow the town to preserve MSBA reimbursement options. Select Board members asked whether placing money in a trade line rather than general contingency affected reimbursement; project staff said an allocation in a trade division allows fuller reimbursement than a GMP contingency line would.
After discussion the Select Board approved the GMP amendment by recorded vote.
