Carl (staff member) said the new Fire Hall 4 was designed to act as a secondary data center in the event the primary facility is unavailable. "This will actually give us the protection to allow us to use it fully as a secondary facility to roll over in case of the loss of this facility in any way," Carl said. He described the service set as Internet, DDoS scrubbing to stop malicious traffic floods, and MPLS for phone circuits.
Carl explained that earlier materials had included an $800 reserve for DDoS protection that had not been executed; the current agreement would cover that protection. When a council member asked about the acronyms and the purpose of DDoS protection, Carl replied: "DDoS is the, distributed denial of service protection. ... This protection stops it, scrubs it and sends through the traffic that's approved. MPLS is the acronym for a phone phone line."
