Students ask board to grant half-weighted grade points to academy courses to match Governor's School arts weighting

Curran framed the request as a matter of equity rather than GPA inflation, saying academy students undertake rigorous, specialized coursework comparable to Governor's School offerings. She listed examples of academy courses across the division — mock trial and criminology in Legal Studies; medical chemistry and biomedical technology in Bayside Health and Sciences; molecular biology and multivariable calculus in Ocean Lakes Math and Science — and said Governor's School for the Arts courses currently receive a partial weighting (0.0122 for an A) that other academy courses do not.
Curran asked the board to “show up for us” and grant a half-weighted point for all academy classes; the board heard the public comment but did not act at the meeting.
