Kyrene committee recommends placing maintenance-and-operations override on November 2025 ballot

The Kyrene Elementary District Long Range Planning Committee recommended placing a continuation of the district’s maintenance-and-operations override on the Nov. 2025 ballot, following a presentation on the override’s size, mechanics and local effects.

Committee members reached that recommendation after hearing district Chief Financial Officer Chris Herman explain how the override fits into Kyrene’s budget and Randy Stein of Stifel Public Finance summarize election patterns across Arizona. Herman said the district’s M&O override “accounts for about 10% of our overall funding for our district,” and he described that sum as roughly $15 million in the current budget year.

The committee’s recommendation matters because the M&O override supplements state funding for day‑to‑day operations — salaries, transportation, utilities and other recurring operating costs — and Herman told the group the dollars currently support roughly 200 teaching positions districtwide.
