Bond planning committee begins site tours and cost reviews as district readies recommendation to superintendent

The committee, formed in January, has completed two working sessions (Feb. 19 and Mar. 13) and will continue with additional meetings, facility tours and public engagement. The committee will tour selected district sites during the school day on April 3 and will present observations at its April meeting. Two community engagement forums are scheduled: April 30 at North Middle School and May 6 at Heatherwood Middle School. The committee aims to deliver a recommendation to Superintendent Salzman on June 24.
Why it matters: the committee’s work will inform whether and how the district proposes a voter‑approved capital construction bond. Members are reviewing enrollment projections, capacity shortfalls, aging systems and consultant cost estimates to build a prioritized list of projects.
Items noted to the board: consultants have produced a draft list of candidate projects with cost estimates; the Jackson Elementary modernization is scheduled to break ground next week; another elementary project is in early construction phases. Committee members and directors discussed portables, site constraints and the trade‑off that not all district needs can be addressed in a single bond package. Presenters and board members emphasized transparency and broad community outreach, and staff said meeting materials and minutes are posted on the district website after each committee session.
Board members and the committee will reconvene after the April 3 tours to incorporate qualitative site observations into project prioritization. The board received no formal motion; the update was informational.
