Board orders multiple property cleanups after code-enforcement report; owner of 922 E. 18th given deadline

The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety on March 26 approved several property-cleanup orders after receiving the weekly code-enforcement report.

Brandy, the code-enforcement staff member, told the board that last week the department issued 43 new notices, cleared 44 cases, has 33 properties pending and sent 15 citations. She said one cleanup was completed and two more cleanups had been ordered.

Several individual properties were placed on an active cleanup schedule after short presentations by enforcement staff and, in one case, by a person working with the property owner. For 922 E. 18th Street, staff said much debris had been loaded onto a trailer but large items remained and the property was not yet in compliance. Randy, representing enforcement on the item, asked the board to let staff schedule the cleanup and said he would like two more weeks for the owner to finish removing material before the city acts. The board approved an order for cleanup and staff confirmed they will schedule the work and give the owner the requested period.

Other ordered cleanups that passed unanimously were for 1826 Mead Street (furniture and debris that staff said could have been removed via free pickup but remained), 531 17th Street (mattresses removed but trash/debris remains; owner has multiple properties under enforcement) and 1422 North Street (mattresses and loose trash; staff reported partial cleanup but said the condition was not resolved).

The board voted to accept the weekly code report and to authorize staff to proceed with cleanups as described; members recorded unanimous yes votes. Board members asked staff to coordinate scheduling and to notify property owners ahead of cleanup work.
