Jan, a city staff member presenting the item, told the board that the state agency offered to help pay for herbicide application and seeding. Jan said the city will front the cost from its beautification account and then seek reimbursement through the cost-share arrangement. “So maybe not. Anyway, so, it is something we pay for upfront and then, they they reimburse us,” Jan said during the meeting. Jan said staff hope to involve Fish and Wildlife, which would be a federal partner, but clarified that federal participation was not certain.
Jan described current plans as limited to herbicide this year so the site is cleared before seeding: “But actually this year all we're doing is the herbicide. We have to be sure everything all the stuff is killed off before we plant seed.” The reimbursement figure mentioned in discussion was $300 per acre; Jan said there are about 10 acres involved.
Board members voted unanimously to approve the agreement. Mayor Chris Martin called the roll; Jacob Palmasoff and Levi Jones recorded yes votes. The board did not adopt additional conditions during the meeting.
