A special public hearing on the Iowa City Comm School District's proposed property tax levy for fiscal year 2026 was held March 25 and concluded with no public comments, the district's board of directors said.
Director Finch read the hearing notice and formal statement: "Now is the time and place for the public hearing on the district's proposed property tax levy FY '26," a statement the board said had been published in the Iowa City Press-Citizen on March 7. The board had set the hearing date at its March 11 meeting.
After the notice was read, the presiding officer asked for public questions or comments. "Are there any questions or comments from the public related to the proposed property tax levy FY '26?" the presiding officer asked. When none were offered, the presiding officer said, "Okay, hearing none, I'll ask for a motion to adjourn." A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved; two members responded "Aye." The board took no formal vote on the levy during the special hearing.
The hearing record shows that notice of the hearing was published in the Iowa City Press-Citizen on March 7, 2025, and the board set the hearing date on March 11, 2025. No public testimony or written comments were recorded during this proceeding.
The special hearing was limited to the proposed FY26 property tax levy; no further action on the levy was documented in this hearing and the meeting was adjourned shortly after the public-comment solicitation.
