Coconut Creek reads certified election results, names new mayor and vice mayor

City Clerk Kavanaugh read certified results from the March 11, 2025 municipal election and the City Commission formally invested the winners and selected its mayor and vice mayor for the coming year.
The certified results read into the record showed Jacqueline Raley receiving 2,724 votes to Felipe Sklar’s 753 in District B; Sandra “Sandy” Welch receiving 2,407 votes to Patricia (Pat) Luis Dway Base’s 1,024 in District C; and Joshua David Bridal receiving 2,916 votes to Felicia Schuman Newkirk’s 508 in District E. The clerk declared Raley, Welch and Bridal the winners of their respective seats. The commission then invested the elected members and moved to leadership nominations under Resolution 2025-42.
The commission nominated Vice Mayor Jacqueline Raley for mayor; the nomination was moved by former Mayor Sandy Welch and seconded by Commissioner Riedell. Raley accepted, saying, “I am humbled, and I am proud to accept the nomination for mayor. I will serve this city with every ounce of my being.” Commissioner Jeffrey Wasserman was nominated and declared vice mayor; Wasserman said, “I’m beyond honored to be recognized as vice mayor for this beautiful city.” The clerk and mayor did not record a separate roll-call vote for the leadership appointments; the commission declared the nominations approved by acclamation.
The investiture and leadership selection were ceremonial and procedural steps at the start of the commission’s session. The clerk’s reading of certified election returns referenced documents received from the Broward County Supervisor of Elections office on March 14, 2025. Commissioners present confirmed the appointments and welcomed the newly invested members before proceeding to the regular agenda.
