Workshop participants were given a limited number of priority votes to allocate among the proposed goals. The exercise was designed to help staff and council identify high-priority items to carry into the upcoming budget and implementation planning.
The highest concentrations of votes went to public-safety projects: a collocated public-safety headquarters and communications upgrades (portable/mobile radios and P25 system migration) received the most support. Other items that received multiple votes included a GIS specialist hire, cemetery improvements and several public-works projects (paving and right-of-way planning).
Consultants and staff explained that the voting results will be compiled into a report and used to prioritize capital requests and staffing proposals in the city manager’s recommended budget. Several participants were advised to expect a two-stage process: staff will prepare detailed cost estimates and schedules for the top-ranked goals, then council will confirm funding priorities during the budget hearings.
