Shelbyville staff plan GIS hire, SmartGov automation and records hosting to modernize services

Staff also said they are pursuing web-based agenda software, records-hosting improvements and upgrades to the city’s electronic records management to support transparency and remote service delivery.
City leaders discussed funding and timing; staff said budgetary requests for technology and one GIS position will be included in the next capital/operating planning cycle and recommended a 2026 start for recruitment and platform procurement.
Workshop leaders emphasized that technology is a cross-cutting investment that may reduce some administrative burdens and accelerate permitting, economic development, and utility asset management once a GIS foundation is in place.
