SRLJC hears update on supported‑release pilot and pretrial staffing from grant team

Aaron Strongberger reported to the Spokane Regional Law & Justice Council that the capstone grant‑funded supported‑release program launched in district court last week with help from Judge Johnson, Colin and Katie McNulty.
"We've had a steady stream of folks, of participants get released into the program. It's going well so far," Aaron Strongberger said, and added the program has seen early engagement from participants.
Strongberger said the grant’s hiring is moving forward: two grant positions were posted and interviews were scheduled, and officials hope to fill those roles in the near term. He also described a court navigator role that will provide wayfinding and navigation assistance around the courthouse and county campus.
Council co‑chair Mike reported the county was able to roll previously allocated funds for supported release into Aaron’s pretrial services budget, which he said will support program sustainability. Colin said the court will now, on its own motion, recommend candidates for the program who might not previously have qualified for release, a practice he called likely to improve participant referral.
The council emphasized data collection. Members said a dashboard is being developed to track program statistics so the group can demonstrate outcomes and seek sustainable funding after the MacArthur Foundation grant period ends.
Ending: Staff said they will continue to fill grant positions, run the supported‑release pilot in district court and report participant counts and dashboard metrics to the council.
