Board approves flying transgender flag on Transgender Day of Visibility, staff to follow flag-code guidance

The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners directed staff to arrange for the county to fly the transgender auxiliary flag on Transgender Day of Visibility, Monday, March 31, 2025.
Commissioners asked that facilities staff follow the federal and government flag‑display standards regarding size and placement so the auxiliary flag is displayed in accordance with the county’s existing procedures. The board also requested that staff consider drafting a future policy to clarify when and under what procedures flags may be flown at county facilities, including whether flag requests should be tied to formal proclamations or be open to community groups.
Staff said facilities personnel will manage the raising and lowering of flags and that the county regularly displays auxiliary flags for recognized events. Commissioners provided verbal consent and asked staff to proceed.
