American Airlines to start nonstop Oklahoma City–Cancun flights as customs facility nears completion

American Airlines announced it will begin nonstop international service between Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City and Cancún, Mexico, with flights starting Nov. 8, 2025 and operating weekly on Saturdays through April 4, 2026. Sales for the new service begin March 31, airport staff said.

The announcement came during the March 27 meeting of the Oklahoma City Airport Trust, where Scott Key, assistant director of airports, said the service will be possible as the airport nears completion of a federal inspection station that will be staffed by U.S. Customs. "This is a tremendous milestone for our airport and our city to gain this new international service by American Airlines to Cancun," Key said.

Key said the new nonstop flights will allow arriving international passengers to clear customs in Oklahoma City rather than at another U.S. port of entry. Airport staff did not provide details in the meeting about the staffing timeline beyond saying the inspection station is nearing completion or about specific aircraft types that will operate the route.

Sales begin March 31, and the initial schedule announced at the meeting shows service on Saturdays from Nov. 8, 2025, through April 4, 2026. No formal board action was recorded on the announcement itself; the item was presented as part of the director's report.

The announcement follows multi-year airport upgrades officials said were designed to support international service, including the federal inspection station. Airport officials encouraged residents to book early to support the new route.
